Overview
Lincoln-related educational resources are being developed for teachers, students, and adults across the commonwealth during the Lincoln Bicentennial.
- Lincoln: “I, too, am a Kentuckian,” KET’s newest Kentucky Life Special, is scheduled for broadcast in March, 2008. Host Dave Shuffett will explore the life and career of Kentucky’s most famous -- though not always its most favorite -- son.
- The Kentucky Department of Education, in partnership with the Underground Railroad Institute at Georgetown College, is creating Lincoln-related teaching tools to be shared with teachers throughout the commonwealth beginning in 2008.
- The Kentucky Historical Society, the Lincoln Museum, Farmington Historic Home, and the Mary Todd Lincoln House are planning major Lincoln-related exhibits during the Bicentennial.
- Beginning in 2008, the Kentucky Historical Society's Historymobile will feature an exhibit on Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln.
- Dramatic performances exploring Kentucky’s Lincoln story will be offered throughout the state. The Kentucky Repertory Theatre is developing a major theatrical production to tour in Kentucky and in neighboring states.
- The Kentucky Humanities Council has created four new Lincoln-related Chautauqua characters, which are available to schools and organizations throughout Kentucky.
- The Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives has developed a suggested reading list and is proposing ways that all of Kentucky's public libraries can celebrate the bicentennial and encourage Lincoln-related scholarship.
