Kentucky's Bicentennial Celebration of Abraham Lincoln

African American Heritage Commission Grants

The Kentucky African American Heritage Commission has funded grants for preservation projects highlighting President Abraham Lincoln's heritage and Kentucky as his birthplace. Administered in partnership with the Kentucky Heritage Council and the State Historic Preservation Office, these grants were available to state and local governments and non-profit organizations operating with the commonwealth.

The goal of the grant program was to provide opportunities for projects that highlight African Americans' legacy with relation to President Lincoln in Kentucky. An African American-related Lincoln site or project is defined for the purposes of this grant program as any site or project that would preserve or add to our knowledge of Kentucky African Americans up to 1900.

The grant deadline for FY08 has passed. For information on grants funded by the African American Heritage Commission, see List of projects that have received grant funding to date
